RUN UGLY!

In high school, our coach would say to our cross country team, “Leave it all out there – stop trying to be cute and run ugly!”

Bethsheba A. Rem is a 2x lululemon Run Ambassador – to include her participation as an 2x official Pace Beaver for the coveted Seawheeze Half Marathon in Vancouver, being chosen to run in the lululemon Toronto 10K  + as a Spoken Word Artist, lululemon has recognized Sheba globally by asking her to perform a poem (written by lululemon) for international Yoga Day, perform her original works for International Women’s Day.

Sheba has over 25 years of running experience. Started running at the age of 12 as a punishment by her father to derail some extra energy. She joined the Detroit Cheetah Track Club and competed in meets across the country and Canada specializing in the 800m, while also competing in the1600m, 4x400, 4x800 and Cross Country. Sheba let the medals collect dust, pursued a career and started a family immediately after college only running for weight management and stress relief. After the challenge to run her first Half Marathon in 2010, she has lost over 30lbs belted a gazillion Half Marathons, countless 5Ks, four 10Ks, two Marathon Relays – coming out on top as the Mercedes Women’s Relay Winners of 2015 ,and has PR’d in both the 5K and Half Marathon with more aggressive race goals ahead.  

In 2012 Sheba published ‘Run Ugly!’ a motivational book for runners and started her Cyber Coaching career by helping very busy adult athletes around the country accomplish their run goals via individualized training programs. She has been the Speed Training Speaker at all the Black Girls Run! Conferences conducting workshops for: Speed Training 101, 201 and ‘The Psychology of a Runner’. Her panels & workshops included the insight of: Elite Athletes Euleen Tanner & Maurya Lacey, expert distance runner Darlene Baltimore, CEO of RBG Fitclub and Hip-Hop artist Stic Man from Dead Prez and manager of both Phidippidies stores, elite athlete and Georgia Tech 10K record holder Kevin Graham.  

With her MFA from Queens University mixed with her love for athletic activities, Sheba became a freelance writer for Atlanta Multisports Magazine and has several published pieces. She frequently contributes to other online magazines as well as her own blog, on Reverbnation, that boasts over 9,000 readers!  

Sheba started the BGR ATL and Charlotte Speed Training Runs, she also helped organize the first Black August 5K race in Atlant’a West End, is called upon frequently to advise several others, gives workshops, and running clinics on Speed Training and creates 5/10K workout plans for beginners and is a member of: Black Marathoners, Nike+, Charlotte Runners Meet Up groups and volunteers frequently at for the Atlanta Track Club and several adult and youth races. Bethsheba is the over all female winner for the inaugural Black Girls Run! 10K race in Atlanta, GA September 16th 2012, 2nd place winner female over all for 2016 and has placed in the top 10 in all the years in between. In 2016, Sheba also belted the age group win for One Mile Running Nerds Race Series!  

2017 Sheba was the only ambassador of color for the Bermuda full and half marathon weekend and encouraged the 2nd largest group to attend that weekend. And was co-race director for the first annual Fresh Year 5K in the Adair Park/Capital View area of Atlanta to welcome a new business to the area. 20 runners, and 8 volunteers came out in the cold and rain for the inaugural run!  

Additionally she is an influential member of several athletic groups in Atlanta: Distance Training Advisor for the Movers & Pacers Run Club, Magic Mile workshop leader, member of the Running Nerds Racing Team, Atlanta Track Club – General Member, Black Triathlete’s Association-General member. Her most recent adventure is becoming the lululemon Run Ambassador for the Ponce City Market store.

Sheba’s upcoming projects include: “Running Black in White America” a new book set to release summer of 2018. “Watch Me Run” a new run song featuring Hip-Hop Artists Stic Man of Dead Prez and Bamn of Be First Class and working on a new running app – she’s hoping to pitch to lululemon and/or Nike.

Creator and Founder of the Adult Scholarship Fund, Sheba often says, “I am not the fastest runner in the world but I will run until I turn to dust.”  

Her cult like social media following has people tuning in every day to share workshops and join her fitness journey. With over 30,000 true followers, people continuously share their testimonials in her inbox and hug her in public for helping to encourage them to change their lives.
